Q

what is the tuning for your song clearing in the wild and what are the chords for the banjo? I absolutely love that song and would love to learn how to play it.

Red Tail Ring responded on 02/10/2014
A

Hi Triston -
The banjo is tuned in what is called "Double C." The strings, from bass note to highest note are C G C D. The drone string is tuned normally - to a G. I'll follow up on an email to you with the chord progression!
Cheers-

Q

Can you please come to Colorado and do some clawhammer lessons!!!?

What town do you live in, Sunny? We toured out west two winters ago and I bet that we're due for making another swing through the territory. We'll be sure to let you know! We felt very at home in the northwoods - type environment of Colorado.
Thanks,

Suffer Every Sound

What was that terrible song?/ the harmonies I came to know / I still feel it in the dark of the night / singing from my devil bow // I used to play all night on that tune / I'd suffer every sound / with grace I chose to leave it alone / & now a brighter song is sung // if you aim to darken my heart / if you aim to take what's there / please consider that small cavity / that heartless would be so bare // this old day is all we ever have / standing in joy or woe / in every sorrow something falls away / towards the final letting go

Best

Q

Can't even say how I got to your music but I'm so glad I did. I would say at this point, I may be addicted and need an "intervention" because I listen so much on my Amazon Cloud.

Would love to get lyrics for "Eliza" - tried to write them out myself (at which point I realized this is a very funny song) but can't make some of the words.

Hope you get to eastern New England at some point.

Here you are Elise. Enjoy!

For every ten girls, I ever fancied
Ten times I've been broke
Ten times my love refused,
My bed longly when I awoke,
But it won't stop my heart from dreaming,
Though it does take its toll,
And each lovely I acquaint with,
I slip deeper in the hole

Eliza, you'll run away with me,
So empty out your pockets and step lightly,
Gather your petticoats tightly to your knee,
Make hast and run until we're free

Should I try to heal my madness,
And from my own heart withdraw?
Bind my body to an oak tree,
With a muzzle on my jaw?
But through that muzzle I would cry out,
And my arms would break free,
Gone away the self restraint,
I attempted so desperately

Sweet Ellen . . .

Do not take pity on my heart,
For me do not frown,
For I jubilate in,
The dreams I have known,
Well give me one more dance,
Before the sun drops,
For some it is hard to love,
For me it's hard to stop

Darling Cora . . .
Eliza . . .

Comments are welcome too! We hope to come back to Iowa City in 2014, so we'll keep you posted. Feel free to send us your favorite Iowa City venues/bands for us to check out next time we're in the area.

Take care,
Michael (& Laurel)
